Nursery Decoration Hints and Tips

Decorating your nursery may seem stressful and confusing. After all, there are lots of decisions to make and lots of work to do before your new little one arrives on the scene.  However, the process of nursery decoration doesn’t have to be a difficult one. Here are a few tips to help you end up with a charming nursery that's just right for your baby.

Most of the time, no matter what color scheme you pick, you'll want to keep the walls plain. This helps keep the room from feeling closed in, and you'll save cash in the long run.Toddlers often want to have their rooms decorated to match their personal tastes.  If the walls aren’t the best shape, you can use wall decals or wall stickers, which are removable, to add interest and cover up damage.  These can easily and inexpensively be replaced later with ones your child prefers. Alternatively, some parents choose to use childrens wallpaper on just one wall, for an interesting feature wall.

Choose curtains that are lined with blackout fabric to create a dark room for snoozing, and ensure that you choose color and pattern carefully. If you don't know the sex of your baby yet, keep to a fairly neutral color scheme.  Even parents who do know whether they're having a boy or a girl often choose less gendered decorations, so they can use their nursery materials again for the next child.Pink is cute - unless you have a surprise son, or your baby daughter has a brother.Avoid using bold or dark colors - lighter shades are best for a child's room, particularly if it's small.

Soft furnishings are easier to change out than wallpaper or paint, and make it easy to add a theme that you won't be stuck with.  A simple change of blanket or curtains can create a whole new nursery if you stick to neutral colors on the walls and floor.Common themes that are gender neutral include toys, jungles, ocean scenes and wild animals. For girls, princesses and fairies are often popular, while boys seem to like sports and cars.  However, each child is different, and once yours has his or her own preferences, it's hard to tell what will be best. That's why a nursery that's easy to change is usually best.

It's fairly simple to create your nursery and finish with one that looks cool. All you need to do is plan with care and watch your budget.A little creativity in decorating your nursery will allow you to have reusable items, in case you're planning to have another baby, and it'll help you save money, too.  Take a look at your home, and exactly what you need from a nursery, before you get started. Then comparison shop and forward plan.  You'll end up with a well put together, attractively decorated nursery that'll be a safe haven for your new baby.

How to Plan the Perfect Nursery

Usually, the baby's nursery is one of the tiniest rooms in the house.Lots of nurseries are adapted from home offices, sewing rooms, and even walk in closets! There's nothing wrong with this, but it means working with a small, and frequently awkward shaped space.Which means that the colors you choose and the furniture placed in it are very important.Bad ones could result in a cramped, overwhelming space. The right ones will help the nursery feel cozy and welcoming.  However, the process of choosing nursery furniture doesn’t have to be a difficult one. Here are a few tips to make sure you end up picking charming but useful nursery furniture that's just right for your child.

You'll need to start out with a list of your basic requirements for the room.  Usually cots or cribs are required, as well as storage and changing space. You'll need to work out the dimensions of the room and the furniture you want to use.  Draw out a plan, taking into account the locations of built in wardrobes, radiators, windows, and the swing area of the door. These obstacles can be real problems in your nursery if you don't remember them.Too many parents have been surprised by an obstacle in a place they wanted to put storage or other furniture.

This will allow you to asess where your items will go.  If you haven't bought your furniture yet, use an average from retailers to decide your placement. You might even think about creating pieces of newspaper in the dimensions of your furniture and placing them on the floor in the right locations.  That will allow you to easily see how much space will be available and let you try moving around in it to see if things feel comfortable.  You won't have to find out that your furniture is too large or close together after you buy.

Remember not to get too much when you're buying items for your new little one. It's too easy to get carried away.Your baby will be using some of these items for only a short time, so it's a good idea to keep to your budget and your real needs.  Will you choose a cots or cot beds?  Is there a toddler bed available for when a cot is no longer needed? How about the area for changing?Make sure you have storage space, and that it's a comfortable height for changing your infant- you should not lean over or stand in a strange position. You can even buy cot top changers – these fit over the top of a cot – to save space until your baby can roll over.

How to Choose Nursery Curtains

We know you are probably thinking “What in the world is the big deal about nursery curtains?" First of all, they are very important to consider. There are things that you would need to think about before making your decision about the types of nursery curtains that you would use in your baby's nursery.

The type of curtains that you consider should be well thought out whenever much of the nursery is finished. There are some qualities to consider in the type of nursery curtains that you will choose.

First of all, we want the curtains to match the rest of the room, and probably the baby nursery bedding too. They don't have to be anything that is too fancy. However, if you have a little girl and the room is already girly, you want them to match the rest of the room. Color and design are important when you are trying to chose the best curtains for your nursery.

The other thing that you will want to think about would be the thickness of the curtains. Are they thick enough to where you can't see through them? Are they preventing cold draughts from coming through during Winter? These are questions that you want to ask before you make your final choice. We also are looking for quality because we want to keep the same curtains all throughout the baby's childhood.

Another thing to consider is the curtain length. It seems unlikely now, but the baby will get older and will be able to reach the curtain to bring it down. That is of course, if we purchase it a little too long. Remember that we want to keep these curtains for quite a long time. It is suggested to buy curtains that are not too long so that the baby can't pull on them when he is learning to walk.

With the many choices in nursery curtains out there, we feel that we've covered the bases as far as the type of curtain to buy. Nursery decoration should feel homey for the baby and at the same time look attractive and be of good quality.
